People with disabilities, especially significant disabilities are often undervalued and disrespected by society. This can lead to negative labels, being left out of regular life (for example school, jobs, friendships), and having fewer opportunities to enjoy a 'good life'.
Everyone has roles- like 'student', 'friend', 'employee' or 'volunteer'. SRV is an evidenced based model, with the aim to help disadvantaged people engage in roles that they value and find meaningful. When a person has positive and respected roles, evidence has shown that others give them more chances in life and their strengths are noticed, not just their weaknesses.
At Grass Roots OT I can help you and your child to imagine, plan, develop capacities and put into place supports, leading to engagement in multiple positive roles and more of the 'good things' in life.
